THIS IS A GRANT-FUNDED POSITION

JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Research Technician 2 assists with interdisciplinary research projects that use zebrafish, mouse, and rabbit models to study calcium signaling in retinal synapses during development, adulthood, and disease.

Responsibilities

Performs electrophysiology, confocal imaging, molecular biology, and biochemistry experiments under the supervision of the Principal Investigator (PI).
Performs analysis of the data generated under the direction of the PI.
Participates in the research project design, manuscript, and grant writing.
Plans experiments (design, preparation for the experiment, writing procedure and protocols, writing lab notes), data recording, data analysis.
Participates in conferences and lab meetings.
Assists in the preparation of reagents, supply inventory, supply orders, equipment maintenance, and animal colony management.
Assists students and technicians in research projects and experiments.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree in Physiology, Biological Science, or a related field. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

EXPERIENCE: OR a combination of college coursework and work experience to equal four (4) years.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Excellent organizational and communication skills are essential.
Familiarity with biochemistry and molecular biology assays is desirable but not compulsory.
Highly motivated with a sincere passion for research.
Ability to learn new techniques and have logical thinking.
Ability to write manuscripts and research proposals.
